Casting call

So it's winter now, not half assed, kinda cold, kinda warm, brown grassed early winter. This is real snow and slush, sinus infection, endless darkness, skateless winter. It sucks. I have this sweet little blog and nothing to write about. I've gone from skating every day to skating every 2 weeks. I have a stack of sweet new boards and no one to ride them. I'm getting a bit stir crazy.
So how do I cope? Scouring the net for new skate clips only goes so far. I need the spring. It's going to be a busy spring for Weatherd. Couple of events planned, going to be transforming a couple abandoned lots into serious skate spots. We have more boards, t-shirts, and stickers coming out, and we are going to start filming for our first full length video.
That's a lot of stuff, and we are under staffed. We need more talent. So if you are and artist, filmer, photographer, web designer, or any other creative type, and are interested in being a part of this new venture, email me at rmailto:richard.randy@rocketmail.com. send me a sample of your work. If you have friends who would be into this, tell them about us and have them email me. We are also looking to expand the skate team, so sponsor me videos are welcome as well. I will post the interesting stuff on the blog.
Until then, I will be heading to the Fichburg park on saturday, snow shovel in hand, hoping to clear enough concrete to satisfy my need to skate. Join me, won't you?

Techneeks.

So two weeks without a blog entry, there is no excuse for that. Unfortunately, until last nights fitchminster 2 premier at techneeks, there hasnt been much going on. Do you know about techneeks? Its a sweet little skate shop. The brain child of Matt Phelps, an all around great guy who has built and stocked this place with his own cash and sweat. Coolest thing about this place is the indoor heated skate park in the back of the store. It's small, a work in progress, but, as you can see from the videos, even in its current configuration its a lot of fun. and for $4 a session you cant beat it. so go to Techneeks at 24 production ave keene Nh  check them out on facebook

Its just an hour from the fitchburg skatepark. Go skate there. you wont be dissapointed. Best part is theres a 5 guys burger and fries right around the corner.  Tell Matt Randy sent you and pick up a Weatherd deck while you are there. The weatherd team will be doing a demo there  saturday Jan15 6 pm. more details to come.

i'll take that one.

So its real. They are real. Weatherd decks are available at Eastern Boarder Leominster. size 8-8.25-8.5. $48. the shape varies slightly board to board so step on a few of them, i'm sure you will find one you like.

After countless delays I am relieved to say that Weatherd's first batch of boards has arrived. Jared and I set ours up right away and hit the park. Even at 28 degrees under light snow flurries the boards felt great. Come get yours at Eastern Boarder Leominster. We should have them in there in time for the video premier so you can support local skaters in two ways Wednesday night.

lets all go to the movies

If you know what Fitchminster is all about no doubt you are already planning on going to the Fitchminster 2 video premier at Entertainment Cinemas in Leominster Wednesday night. If you havent decided to go yet, just take a minute to think about it. Ask yourself, How often do I get to watch a skate film in a full sized movie theater? How often do I get to see a full length skate video featuring locals that I know? How often do I get to go to the movies for free?

Chances are the answer to all 3 questions is "not very often". So show up. Support our friends. Eat popcorn and twizzlers. Have fun. Jon, Kris, and the krew put a ton of time and effort into this. It took several years to put together and from what I hear it's pretty amazing.

Untitled from Randy Richard on Vimeo.

Sorry for abismal camera work on this edit. I had so much going on I wasn't focused on "filming". I just wanted to soak everything in. I am glad the camera was running though. We still havent heard anything on the boards. Was hoping to have them for "black Friday" but oh well. Enjoy the clip.

Another note about the Day of Awesomeness....

Yesterday’s Day of Awesomeness was truly fantastic. I really enjoyed seeing all these kids skate their hearts out. I just feel really bad for the biker who looked like he broke his leg. We wish him well. But, it was a great day and I hope that Weatherd can bring many more days like this to the local skate scene. Thanks to Randy for all the hard work. It appears to have paid off. The best way it did that was to bring so many together to do something that we all enjoy immensely, skating. It was such a blast and I look forward to the next Weatherd event. I am looking forward even more to getting my new board sometime next week. I really hope they come in soon. But, again, thanks to all the skaters who showed up to support the local scene. It is much appreciated.

Day of awesomeness remembered.

Pretty safe to say that our first event was a success. Didnt really take a count, but i figure we had 50 or 60 people total. Thanks to all who helped and especially to Eastern Boarder for providing T shirts and stickers to give away.

Congrats to David Nott for winning our contest. Hopefully we have a board to give you soon. Josh Mutti killed it as always and Jose Lara probably would have taken the whole thing if he hadn't sprained his ankle mid contest. What is it about late fall skating that makes us kill ourselves?

I was totally lazy about photos and filming. I've got someone lined up to take photo's of future events http://fotogeeek.wordpress.com/ Ifanyones interested in filming for us contact me at richard.randy@rocketmail.com

Two more days.....

As the 1st Annual Day of Awesomeness approaches, I have many mixed emotions. I am very much excited to go and watch some very good skaters. It will be a blast watching the team, and others, put on a show. I am also excited to see a few of my good friends this weekend. I am also a bit nervous for a few reasons. First, I have not been part of the skating scene for such a long time. I am terrible at skating right now, so if you see me on a board, be sure to watch because you might get a good laugh out of it. Second, I just want things to go well, for the skater’s sake and for Randall’s. He has put a lot of time and effort into this event and company and I just want it to go well for him.

Two more days until the time arrives. Two more days until the 1st Annual Day of Awesomeness. Skaters, lube those bearings, tighten those trucks, and prepare yourselves for a day of awesomeness.

another attempt at posting kris's video

Boston from Kris Cormier on Vimeo.

For those of you who don’t know me (which probably not many do) I am Marcel Scott. I am 31 years old and am not currently a very good skater. Someday, with a little help from my friends, I will be. I used to skate way back in the day (for me anyway). It was from about 1990 to 1999 that I skated. I was decent, nothing to write home about, but decent. My first skate board was a Christian Hosoi. It had Independent Trucks, Bones wheels and the board itself was fat with no nose, like the boards from Gleaming the Cube, which by the way is an awesome movie. It was awesome and that board will live on in my memory forever.

My cohort, Randy, has gotten me to have the skate buzz again, and for this I am eternally grateful. His passion for skating has reinvigorated me and I hope again to be able to ollie while moving one day. As for right now, the ollying must be standing still, but one day I will concur! I will land an ollie and stand up and say "I have become a MAN!" One day! One day it will happen but until that day comes I will dream the dream knowing that dream will become my reality. Also, one day, I will lose this beer gut that has grown steadily over the past 8 years. This will be due to skating again, so in a sense I will owe my life to skating. Thank you skateboard, I am indebted to you forever!

I truly look forward to seeing this company (Weatherd Skateboards) progress from the grass roots stage. I am honored to be part of it, even though I haven’t been skating for so long. I hope to see it become a company skaters can be proud of. A company they feel like they want to support because of the way it is run and because of the attitudes of those who are running it. This will truly be a great experience. I look forward to the day of Awsomeness. It will be fun and I will finally get a board again that day, so look out. I guess all I have left to say at this point is SKATE ON!

For those who need proof I used to skate here you go. Not a great picture, but the only one I could find.

Kris Cormier Boston edit, Board update, Day of Awesomeness

So, Due to a glitch with our distributor, the boards will not be here in time for the "day of awesomeness" (Saturday Nov 20th 11-whenever, Fitchburg skatepark.) They will however be in the middle of next week so anyone who wants one can pick them up on black friday at Eastern Boarder Leominster. Even without the boards, The Day of awesomeness will be amazing, lots of great skaters coming , lots of hot dogs, and we will be giving away a free deck to someone.

Do we need another post about the lights?

Ok, at this point I would like to qualify this by saying I have no idea what I am talking about, But the lights at Fitchburg skatepark have been on the last two nights. It looks like we have them on weekends at least. This means Weatherd skateboards "first annual day of awesomeness" will be extended under the lights next Saturday, 11/20. come hang with us, eat free hot dogs and maybe win a free deck. The new decks may be late for the event but it will still be fun.

I am such a dork

I guess the lights over fitchburg park was just a one time only thing because of veterans day. That makes tons of sense. I guess I geeked out over nothing. Weather still looks good for the 20th. Come on out to Fitchburg and skate with us.

Evening skate sessions just got a bit longer.

So I rushed out of work today just hoping to make up for some of the skating I had lost to the stagnant dribbling lazy-assed storm system that had been whizzing on us since Sunday night. I know full well how precious after work sessions are this time of year. Every afternoon the shadows stretch themselves out a little earlier, and the Mercury slumps a little lower. Pretty soon that critical ritual I have instituted to help me transition from "work me" to" home me" will be snatched away from me. My after work skate sessions will be lost to the cold, dark winter nights.

Tonight's session was pretty good, although my ribs are still killing me from the slam I took last week. All in all I felt pretty satisfied when I grabbed my board and headed for the exit as the sun sank behind the trees at 4:40. Then something amazing happened. The concrete began to flicker and glow. I looked up, smiled, and jumped back on my board.

Someone please find out who got the lights turned back on at the Fitchburg Ryan Jobert skatepark and thank them for me. Rumor has it they will be on every night till about 8.

B.T.W. don't forget the "day of awesomeness" 11/20, One week from Saturday.

so we have a blog?

Hey everybody! And by everybody I mean the one or two people that stumbled across this blog while they were looking for something else. Welcome to the Weatherd blog!

For those of you who dont know me; I'm Randy. I'm a 39 year old dufus who started skating a little over a year ago and is deluded enough to start a skateboard company. It's pretty retarded, I know, but bear with me.

We did our homework. The boards are good, 7 ply Canadian rock maple made in the U.S. We also put together a small team of skaters that understand what we are trying to do.

All that we are trying to do is give back to a community that is being overlooked. I want to give back to the guys that saw this overweight, uncoordinated, grey haired, wrist guard wearing 38 year old wobbling down the banks at Fitch park and said,"Hey old man, keep it up."

I don't have much to give. I'm kind of broke. What I want to give this community is a brand that is distinctly ours. A brand that reflectd what we go through as skaters in New England. If enough skateshop owners put our boards up on their walls and enough skaters choose to suport us, maybe we can scrape some cash together and put some contests on, or build and expand some vigillante parks, or just do the kind of fun stuff that gets skaters psyched on skating and psyched on the local scene.

Enough rambling, boards are in in a couple weeks. The "DAY OF AWESOMENESS" will go down on the 20th at Fitch park. Hope you all make it for the Tab and Tube steak. Good Times ahead .
